An early morning fire near the Disraeli Freeway has prompted the emergency demolition of a vacant home. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a house fire in the first 100 block of Argyle Street at 6 a.m., which caused traffic delays. Heavy flames and smoke could be seen coming from the house, with firefighters being unable to safely enter the building due to the conditions. An aerial ladder was used to help battle the fire, while crews worked from outside the home. The fire was under control at 9:27 a.m. One firefighter was assessed by paramedics at the scene. The house, which was damaged by a fire in June, sustained severe fire, water and smoke damage. The WFPS ordered an immediate demolition of the home due to concerns about the building’s structural stability and to extinguish remaining hot spots. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
