Grey Bruce Public Health says it has been notified of three suspected opioid-related overdoses, including one fatality, that occurred between Aug. 13 and 18 in Owen Sound, Saugeen Shores and West Grey. According to public health officials, fentanyl is suspected to have been involved in the fatal overdose. In the two non-fatal overdoses, the suspected substances were fentanyl and methamphetamine. In response, Grey Bruce Public Health is urging people who use drugs to take precautions to reduce the risk of overdose. Officials recommend carrying naloxone and ensuring a sober person is present who can administer the medication and call 911 in the event of an overdose. Naloxone is available through pharmacies, participating community partners and directly from Grey Bruce Public Health. The health unit distributes naloxone Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with no appointment required.
