A portion of 97 Street between Jasper Avenue and Okîsikow Way will be closed temporarily to accommodate construction of the new Chinatown Gate. The two-week closure will start Monday. Drivers are asked to use 100 Street or 95 Street via Jasper Avenue or 103A Avenue as detours. Southbound drivers on 97 Street will be temporarily allowed to turn left east onto 103A Avenue to help reduce traffic congestion. Access will be maintained on 97 Street between 102A Avenue and Okîsikow Way, as well as the Canada Place parkade. Pedestrians will still be able to access 97 Street during the closure. After the two-week closure, the same section of 97 Street will close overnight for another estimated two weeks from Sept. 8 to 21 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. One northbound lane on 97 Street will be closed during the day starting late September for about three weeks during off-peak hours. Bus routes 111, 130X, 150X, 900X and St. Albert Transit route 211 will be detoured. Construction of the new gate began in March and is expected to be completed in 2027.
