A 36-year-old man has been charged after allegedly punching a stranger in the face in East Vancouver. Police say the assault happened around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, when a woman who was walking near Hastings Street and Clark Drive was suddenly confronted and punched in the face. Describing the incident as a “random stranger attack,” the Vancouver Police Department said the assault left the woman with a cut beneath her eye. Officers responded to the area and located a suspect with help from a witness, the department said in a news release Friday. Authorities identified the suspect as Kurtis Hummer, 36. Court records show Hummer, born in 1990, was charged Friday with one count of assault causing bodily harm. He was released from custody pending a scheduled court appearance on Sept. 2.
