Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) warns that funnel clouds could be seen in parts of north-eastern Saskatchewan on Thursday. A special weather statement by ECCC has been issued for the R.M. Of Beaver River, including Pierceland and Goodsoil. The favourable conditions for funnel clouds is expected to last until early Thursday evening. “These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms,” the weather agency noted. “This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground. However, there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.” Watches and warning will be issued by ECCC if conditions become more favourable to potential landspout tornadoes. The tornadoes don’t usually cause significant damage but can topple trees or damage roofs. Those in the area are advised to take shelter if a funnel cloud develops nearby, as they can often appear with little to no warning.
