The Town of Essex is introducing a new bicycle patrol program for its Bylaw Enforcement Team. Town officials say it provides officers with a more visible, accessible and environmentally friendly way to serve residents and visitors throughout the community. “Bylaw enforcement plays an important role in keeping our community safe and welcoming for all, and this new bicycle patrol program gives our officers another way to connect with residents and visitors,” said Essex mayor Sherry Bondy. Following extensive planning and preparation by administration, the bicycle patrol has officially launched this week. The initiative is intended to increase the presence of bylaw officers in busy community areas, particularly during the spring and summer months. The bicycle patrol program is part of the town’s ongoing efforts to explore more sustainable approaches to municipal operations. The town recently added a new hybrid Toyota RAV4 to its bylaw enforcement fleet, providing officers with a more fuel-efficient vehicle for their work throughout the municipality.
