What started as an argument with families at a Gravenhurst baseball tournament ended in an arrest Wednesday evening. Bracebridge OPP were called to Gull Lake Park around 5:30 p.m. after receiving reports of two men arguing with families who were enjoying a baseball tournament. Police say the men were behaving “inappropriately” and were believed to be smoking near families with children. When they were asked to move away from the area, the situation allegedly escalated. The pair eventually left the park in a vehicle and officers later tracked them down on Muskoka Road 169 near Parkers Point Road. Following an investigation, police charged a 59-year-old of Port Carling with impaired operation and driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Officers are also reminding the community that smoking restrictions apply to many public spaces under Ontario’s Smoke-Free Ontario Act. The restrictions include tobacco, cannabis and e-cigarettes and apply to areas like children’s playgrounds and sporting areas, as well as certain nearby seating areas. A fine of $250 can be issued for smoking or vaping in a prohibited area.
