A 23-year-old driver of a utility terrain vehicle has been charged after the vehicle overturned while doing doughnuts on school property in Phelps Township, northeast of North Bay. The incident took place around 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 11. Ontario Provincial Police were alerted that a UTV was being driven in a dangerous manner on Glenvale Drive. “Police learned through an investigation that the UTV had been driven onto the property and onto a field where the driver performed doughnuts, causing damage to the grass,” the OPP said in a news release Aug. 13. No serious injuries “During this activity, the UTV rolled over. Officers identified the driver and were able to confirm the well-being of both driver and passenger. No serious injuries were reported.” The driver has been charged with dangerous driving and mischief that damages or destroys property. The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on Sept. 15. “The North Bay OPP reminds the public that dangerous driving behaviour can have serious consequences regardless of whether it occurs on a roadway, trail, parking lot or private property,” police said.
