A 16-year-old boy is facing several sex offences involving three minors while he worked at a day camp in Montreal’s Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough. Montreal police’s sexual assault unit launched an investigation on July 31 into a complaint involving a young girl for alleged acts that happened in the previous weeks. On Thursday, police announced that a suspect was arrested after meeting with investigators earlier in the day. He appeared in youth court to face charges of sexual assault, sexual contact, voyeurism, and the production, possession and distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation material. After the initial complaint, the interim director general at Loisirs Sophie-Barat day camp, Ghita Boulaich, said the staff member was removed from all duties. In a written statement, Boulaich said, “We are deeply saddened and shaken by the allegations that have been brought to our attention.” “Loisirs Sophie-Barat has always been committed to providing children with a safe, caring and enriching environment, and we understand the concerns this situation may cause within our community.” As police continued their investigation, they learned there were two other alleged victims who were also minors. Investigators made the arrest after submitting the case to the province’s Crown prosecution office. Parents with additional information that has not yet been shared with the investigators from the sexual assault unit are asked to do so by calling 514-280-8502. The day camp also sent a letter to parents inviting them to contact management directly with any questions or concerns regarding the events.
