Ottawa police say a 22-year-old man is in life-threatening condition after crashing into a hydro pole on Fallowfield Road early Tuesday morning. The crash happened at the intersection of Old Richmond Road and Fallowfield Road at around 5:20 a.m. Ottawa paramedic spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps told CTV News Ottawa there were two people in the car, a man and a woman, and both suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police later said in a news release that the male driver’s injuries were life-threatening. Ottawa Fire Services said firefighters were called to the scene by Ottawa police to aid in extricating the two people who were trapped in the vehicle after the crash. “Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed the vehicle was on its driver’s side against a hydro pole that had broken in half from the impact. The pole had completely crushed the rear passenger compartment and both occupants were trapped in the front,” said Ottawa Fire Services public information officer Nick DeFazio. “Firefighters quickly secured the scene and confirmed that no hydro lines had been severed from the main lines. Crews then stabilized the vehicle and began the extrication process.” It took approximately 15 minutes to get both people safely out of the vehicle. Ottawa police said early Tuesday afternoon that Fallowfield Road between Old Richmond Road and Eagleson Road was expected to remain closed until late in the evening and possibly into early Wednesday morning for pole repairs.
