A resident in Souris was able to fight off a man who confronted him and his wife at their home with a gun last week. Manitoba RCMP said officers were called to a home in Souris on Aug. 27, just before 1 p.m. for reports that a man with a gun entered the home and assaulted someone. RCMP said a man knocked on the door and the woman living there answered it. At that point, police said the man asked to speak to her husband and then assaulted her and pointed a “high-powered rifle at her.” “The female ran as her husband arrived. He tackled the suspect, wrestled away the firearm and held him for police. The victims were not seriously hurt,” RCMP said in a news release. The man was taken to hospital for monitoring and RCMP arrested him the next morning. The gun was also seized by police. A 66-year-old man from Souris is facing multiple firearm and assault-related charges. He was let go on a release order. None of the charges have been tested in court. Souris is 46 kilometres southwest of Brandon.
