A group of suspects who allegedly damaged a home in Toronto’s affluent Rosedale neighbourhood after the victim refused to fall for their elaborate roofing scam is being sought by police. In a news release issued Tuesday, police said that sometime between Aug. 10 and Aug. 17, one of the suspects attended the home near Mount Pleasant Road and Elm Avenue and identified themselves as a “fraud investigator” who was looking into roofing scams in the area. Police said the suspect advised the victim that repairs were being carried out for “free” and that the homeowner would receive reimbursement for being a victim of a roofing scam. Police could not tell CTV News if the homeowner was in fact previously the victim of a roofing scam. When the suspect returned to the address accompanied by another suspect, they informed the victim that they would need to pay for the repairs up front, which they refused. Days later, the suspect and three others returned to the address without the owner’s knowledge and damaged the roof and fence of the property. None of the suspects have been identified by police.
