The Humane Society London & Middlesex has welcomed 12 animals rescued from communities across Northern Ontario. The shelter received five puppies, two adult bully-mix dogs and five cats Saturday as part of a collaboration with non-profit pet rescue Northern Reach Network. The animals were transferred to London over a three-week period. The five puppies are currently staying in a foster home while they become socialized and adjusted to their new surroundings. Once they are ready, the puppies will be made available for adoption. The two adult dogs and five cats are going through the shelter’s intake process, including health assessments, to ensure they are healthy and ready for adoption. Melanie Paterack, director of community and animal supports at the Humane Society London & Middlesex, says the community will play an important role in helping the animals find new homes. “This is so meaningful for us, an organization and also for a community, because it’s not just us who are going to help these animals,” Paterack said. She says the shelter is also looking for people who can foster animals and is asking for donations. The Humane Society London & Middlesex has a current wish list on its website outlining items the organization needs.
