Sault police and Crime Stoppers have released surveillance images and are seeking the public’s help to identify a suspect in a theft investigation at a local retailer. Crime Stoppers of Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District, in partnership with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, issued a plea for help on Friday and detailed the incident from earlier this month. Authorities said the incident occurred on Aug. 7 at the Walmart Superstore location on Great Northern Road. “An unknown male entered the store and was observed by store security concealing merchandise valued at $225 into a bag,” said Crime Stoppers in a news release. “The suspect proceeded out to the parking lot where he transferred three of the items into a backpack leaving two items behind after being confronted by security.” Portions of the incident were captured by video surveillance cameras, and Sault police and Crime Stoppers are requesting the public’s assistance with identifying the suspect. Authorities have distributed the surveillance images and a video along with an appeal for information. Appealing to the community “Do you recognize this individual?” asked Crime Stoppers. Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact Sault police or Crime Stoppers anonymously. “If you have information, please contact Crime Stoppers,” the organization said in a related online video.
