The season is over for the city’s summer collegiate baseball team. The Edmonton Riverhawks lost their final game of the regular season, 6-2 on Wednesday night to the host Bellingham Bells, ending their hopes of securing a playoff spot in the West Coast League’s North Division. Edmonton needed to win the game and hope that one of two teams ahead of them in the division standings lost on Wednesday. None of those things happened. The Kelowna Falcons and Nanaimo NightOwls, who each finished with a 30-24 record, handily won their games to take the third and fourth seeds in the North. The Falcons will face the first-seed Wenatchee AppleSox, while the NightOwls play the second-seeded Bells. The divisional rounds of the WCL playoffs begin on Friday. The Riverhawks finished fifth in the division after making the playoffs the last two seasons. Last year, the Bells beat the Riverhawks in the North Division final en route to winning the league title. The Riverhawks ended their 2026 home schedule in late July, setting a new WCL annual attendance record of 142,043, averaging 5,682 fans at Re/Max Field and beating the mark they set the year before.
