Four women are in hospital with serious injuries after a vehicle left a highway in Bonshaw, P.E.I. Queens District RCMP, the North River Fire Department and Island EMS all responded to the single-vehicle collision on Route 1 around 12:30 a.m. Monday. Police say the SUV left the highway and ended up in the ditch, setting off a crash detection alert. “Four women were transported to hospital with serious injuries,” said the RCMP in a news release Monday. “Three of the occupants sustained critical injuries.” Investigators don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. Route 1 was down to one lane in Bonshaw, near the Appin Road, for a few hours early Monday morning. The highway fully reopened to traffic around 3 a.m. “Queens District RCMP continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash,” said police.
