A goat is back on solid ground after spending the night at the bottom of a cliff in Metchosin. Firefighters were called to a property at about 8:30 a.m. Oct. 5 after the goat became stranded below a steep drop and could not make her way back up. Firefighters and trained rope rescue technicians assessed the terrain before deciding how to reach the animal without putting her at further risk. Using specialized rope rescue gear, crews made their way down to the goat, secured her and carefully brought her back to the ground. The operation ended with the goat safely reunited with her owner. “This incident is another example of the wide range of calls our firefighters respond to in our community,” Metchosin Fire said in a social media post. “Metchosin Fire members regularly train in technical rescue skills to ensure they are prepared when people or animals find themselves in difficult situations.”
