A man’s body was found laying on the road on Highway 1 through Burnaby early Tuesday morning, and police are urgently seeking witnesses to a possible hit-and-run. A caller reported the grim sight in the eastbound lanes of the highway near Kensington Avenue just before 6 a.m., according to police. “The male was obviously deceased and had injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle,” B.C. Highway Patrol wrote in a statement. BCHP said its investigators have taken over the file because the victim may have been killed by a driver who left the scene. Highway 1 was closed eastbound between Kensington Avenue and Galgardi Way so police could collect evidence, creating heavy traffic for commuters. “We are investigating all possibilities and have not ruled anything out at this point,” Sgt. Michael McLaughlin said, in the statement. “It’s crucial that we speak to anyone who saw anything unusual on Highway 1 near Kensington between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. this morning.” Mounties are asking for dash-cam video from anyone who was driving near Kensington Avenue before the body was found, even if it doesn’t show the crash. Anyone with video or who witnessed “anything unusual” is urged to call BCHP at 604-526-9744.
