A 72-year-old woman is recovering after being attacked by a grizzly bear in B.C.’s Squamish-Lillooet region last weekend, officials say. B.C.’s Ministry of Environment and Parks said the senior was in a remote area near Gold Bridge, an unincorporated community northwest of Lillooet, when the bear attacked her Sunday afternoon. She suffered serious injuries and had to be airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital for treatment. Conservation officers met the victim in hospital and collected some of her clothing for “potential linkage evidence” before returning to the attack scene to investigate, the ministry told CTV News in a statement. “The onsite investigation and victim statement have led the team to believe this was a defensive attack by a female grizzly with at least one cub,” the ministry added. Officials said conservation officers will not be capturing, removing or killing any bears as a result of the attack — but that they did put signs up in the area as a precautionary measure.
