The town of Lumsden is gearing up for what will be it’s eleventh year of its Scarecrow Festival. Each year the event features over 100 different scarecrow displays in front of businesses and homes. “You kind of look around yourself at the valley, right? And the leaves changing and the beauty in that itself and people from town really get involved in this,” said Lumsden Community Coordinator Matt McGeough. “Every year scarecrows start to come out usually at the start of September. There are some great ideas for scarecrow displays. We have prizes from our local Lions Club that they’ll donate prizes to the best scarecrow display. And it’s really just a community and a town getting on board for this big activity.” More than 80 craft and food vendors will line James Street, along with a pancake breakfast, horse drawn wagon rides and a showing of the Minecraft movie in the park, followed by a fireworks finale. The festival will run on Saturday, Sept. 26.
