Get set for an abrupt change to the weather pattern. Showers tonight, gusty and chilly Saturday...then sunny and cool for Sunday in Edmonton. We have rain falling across northern Alberta Friday morning and that’ll continue through much of the day. In general, about 5-15 mm is expected in the Peace Country. Areas from Fort McMurray north will get 30-60 mm by midday Saturday. Areas from Edson/Nordegg up through Whitecourt/Barrhead should get 10-20 mm Friday afternoon and evening. For the Edmonton region, about 5-10 mm is expected (mostly overnight). A strong low-pressure system will push across the province bringing those showers (and some isolated thunderstorms) to much of Alberta. We’re also in for a gusty day in northwestern Alberta, across the south, and along the Saskatchewan border. Edmonton should get relatively light wind Friday (10-15 km/h); the gusts start to pick up late Friday night as the rain moves through and then the wind sticks around through the day Saturday. Gusts are expected to be in the 40-60 km/h range all day Saturday in the Edmonton region. There’s also some colder air being dragged in behind that low pressure system. Edmonton should get to around 18 C this afternoon. Saturday afternoon, we’ll be in the 10 to 12 C range (and cloudy and gusty). The system moves off quickly and sunshine returns for Sunday (with light wind). Temperatures will only get to the low to mid teens Sunday afternoon. But, that’ll probably FEEL a lot nicer than Saturday. Looking ahead to next week: Some sun and mid to upper teens early in the week.
