Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating an allegation of sexual assault against an Ottawa police officer while they were on duty earlier this year. The Ottawa Police Service contacted the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) last Friday after they received a sexual assault complaint, according to the SIU. In a statement to CTV News Ottawa, the SIU said the reported incident occurred in January and “related to an alleged sexual assault involving an on-duty Ottawa Police Service officer and a woman.” Two SIU investigators have been assigned to the case. No other information was released by the SIU on Wednesday morning. The SIU is an independent agency that investigates the conduct of police officers that may have resulted in a death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
