Staff at Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert seized packages containing drugs and other unauthorized items on two separate occasions. According to the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), staff intercepted packages containing methamphetamine and THC concentrate on July 25 and 27. The total estimated institutional value of the drugs was $67,100. CSC says it uses several tools to help prevent drugs and other contraband from entering federal correctional institutions. These measures include ion scanners and detector dogs that are used to search buildings, visitors, inmates and personal property. “CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions,” CSC stated. CSC also operates an anonymous tip line for federal institutions. The service allows people to report information related to drug use, trafficking or other activities that could affect the safety and security of inmates, staff and visitors.
