One man is dead and another is charged with manslaughter following an assault outside a nightclub in Nanaimo, B.C. Police say the 27-year-old victim died from injuries he sustained outside the Sweet Spot Lounge on July 17. Officers were called to the club following the assault, which occurred at around 1 a.m., the Nanaimo RCMP said in a news release Wednesday, nearly two weeks after the altercation. “The victim was transported for medical treatment with injuries considered to be life-threatening,” the release said. “Despite extensive medical treatment, the victim died from the injuries he sustained.” A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged with manslaughter, police said. The Nanaimo RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation. Investigators have not provided any details about the individuals involved or their relationship to one another. “As this matter is now before the courts, no further information will be released,” police said. Online court records associated with the police file number show Drake Robert Arthur Britt, born in 1992, was charged with aggravated assault on the day of the incident. He remains in police custody with a court appearance scheduled for Thursday.
