Thousands of dollars’ worth of tools and equipment were stolen from emergency crews as they fought a fire in New Waterford, N.S., on Sunday. A resident approached crew members from the New Waterford Volunteer Fire Department to tell them they “saw someone take and run away with a piece of equipment from one of their trucks.” The crews confirmed two separate Cape Breton Regional Fire Services trucks were missing equipment and tools. A two-handed circular saw, valued at $3,000, was missing from the first truck. The second truck was also missing a circular saw, an angle grinder, impact driver, drill, assorted bits and drivers, and a flashlight and batteries, according to a police news release on Wednesday. Cape Breton Regional Police is investigating the theft. They canvassed the neighbourhood to speak with residents and collect video surveillance. Officers encourage anyone who may have seen anything in the area to contract police at 902-563-5151 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
