A drier pattern sets in (for a few days) as we exit the month of July. We’ll see Mainly Sunny skies and temperatures hitting the mid 20s in Edmonton today. Northern Alberta will get some showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. 16 of the past 28 days have had rain in Edmonton, but we should be storm-free today, Thursday and Friday. The only SLIGHT risk is about a 20% chance of a scattered shower late Thursday night. Most (probably all) of Thursday is looking Partly Cloudy though...and we’ll hit the mid 20s in the afternoon. Tuesday evening’s storms didn’t produce more than 2 to 8 millimetres of rain. So, it looks like we’ll end the month just short of the monthly record for rainfall. Officially, 265mm has fallen at the Blatchford weather station. There are a few days of missing data in that official record and it looks like nearby stations picked up about 2mm of rain on those dates. Even if we pushed the total to 267, we’d still come up just short. So...I’ll go with the numbers that will enter the historical record books and use 265mm. Unless Thursday night goes completely sideways and we somehow get a big dump of rain, the top three wettest months for Edmonton will be: July 1901 - 283mm June 2026 - 271mm July 2026 - 265mm That still makes this the wettest “June/July” combo on record. The first weekend of August will feature some more wet weather. We’ll be sunny and hot Saturday, with a chance of some evening thunderstorms. Then...a big cooldown and some showers and/or steadier rain for Sunday. Looking ahead to next week - a dry, sunny and warm pattern holds for most of the week.
