With summer beginning to wind down, Ottawa families are heading out to the Capital Fair for one more weekend of fun. The fair started in 1975 and continues to bring fun, excitement and joy to families in the Capital Region. “We wanted to take advantage of the last beautiful weekend for summer. We’re happy we did. We’re having a great time. Lots of activities for the kids,” said Raquel Castro, who was attending the Capital Fair with her daughters. The fair features nearly 40 rides and attractions, including food trucks, vendors and shows. “We’ve got free entertainment. We’ve got pig shows. We’ve got big races. We’ve got lumberjack shows. We’ve got a really great iFlip show — its people on trampolines and all kinds of stuff going on here,” said Mark Lamoureux, general manager of the Capital Fair. Admission starts at $7. Parking is $8. Brian and Yvette McGirr used to bring their daughter to the Capital Fair, now they are carrying on the tradition bringing their granddaughter. “It’s nice to be able to introduce her to some stuff that her mother used to do,” Yvette said. This is the couple’s first time attending the Capital Fair since it moved to the corner of Albion Road and Rideau Road 15 years ago. “Oh it’s great. Lots of parking. Lots of room to move around. Not too crowded. Lot of nice rides and plenty of food,” said Brian. On Saturday, the Capital Fair Blues Revue music concert will be taking place with local and national blues artists. Then, on Sunday, there will be an arm-wrestling competition and a demolition derby. The 10-day fair wraps up this weekend.
