Ottawa police say a cyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle near the Rideau Canal pathway on Saturday afternoon. The collision occurred off Queen Elizabeth Driveway near Fifth Avenue at around noon, police say. Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson Chris Bourne says the cyclist, a woman in her 30s, was clipped by the vehicle. According to Bourne, both the cyclist and the driver, a man in his 70s, were assessed and then released at the scene. In addition to striking the cyclist, the vehicle also collided with a section of the Rideau Canal pathway barrier. “The vehicle went through barricades at the canal, hanging off the ledge. It has since been brought back onto the ground and never entered the water,” Police wrote in a statement. Damage could be seen on a section of the canal barrier, and a red SUV also appeared to have sustained damage. Bourne says firefighters helped to unwedge the vehicle. Police say an investigation is underway.
