Southwestern Public Health is asking for the public’s help to identify a dog involved in a bite incident in Tillsonburg as officials work to confirm the animal’s vaccination status. The incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 on Quarter Town Line Road near Southridge Public School, the health unit said. According to officials, a person had parked his truck and was walking along the road when a large dog ran from a ditch, grabbed his right arm and dragged him approximately 10 to 15 feet. The dog was wearing a collar, but its owner has not been identified, officials said. The animal is described as large, with short black fur and a short tail. Public health said it is believed to resemble a Rottweiler. Officials are seeking to determine the dog’s vaccination status so the victim and his health-care provider can make decisions regarding rabies post-exposure prophylaxis. Southwestern Public Health is asking the dog’s owner, or anyone with information about the incident, to contact the health unit at 1-800-922-0096 and ask to speak with a Public Health Inspector.
