Waterloo Regional Police say their pursuit of a dangerous driver ended at an island in the Conestogo River. On Thursday, around 11 a.m., someone reported a man in distress at Lobsinger Line and Three Bridges Road in St. Jacobs. Police said he drove off when officers arrived to check on him. They decided not to pursue the vehicle. “A short time later, police received reports of a vehicle being driven dangerously in the area of Three Bridges Road and Henry Street,” a media release said. “During the incident, the vehicle nearly struck a pedestrian and was driven through a corn field.” It was found abandoned nearby. Police said they used their canine team and a drone to search the area. The driver, a 31-year-old from Waterloo, was found on an island in the Conestogo River. Police said they arrested the man and charged him with dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, five counts of operation while prohibited, obstructing a peace officer and possession of an identity document.
