The man charged in a High River death earlier this week made a brief court appearance Friday morning. Jarret Stobbe, 36, appeared virtually in an Okotoks courtroom. His case was pushed to Aug.7. Stobbe is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 36-year-old Cayla Bleeker Tuesday night. Police found Bleeker in her house with gunshot wounds around 9:30 p.m. She died in hospital. A GoFundMe organized for Bleeker’s family described her as a devoted single mother to her two daughters, who are six years old and 10 months old. “Anyone who knew Cayla knew how fiercely she loved her daughters and how tirelessly she worked to give them the best life possible,” the fundraiser said. “She often worked seven days a week to make ends meet, even during the postpartum months after the birth of her youngest daughter. Through every challenge, she met life with determination, kindness, a positive attitude and an incredible sense of humour.” A preliminary court record check shows the accused had an extensive history with Alberta’s justice system, including a 2013 conviction for an assault charge, as well as several withdrawn charges for uttering threats to cause bodily harm and assault with a weapon.
