RCMP say five people died in separate crashes in Alberta over the long weekend. There were also 28 injuries from crashes between last Friday and Monday. “Road safety is a shared responsibility,” said Sgt. Darrin Turnbull in a news release Tuesday. “Choices such as driving sober, staying focused behind the wheel, adjusting your driving to road and weather conditions, and buckling up can save lives.” Mounties conducted enhanced traffic safety enforcement across Alberta over the Heritage Day long weekend and issued 1,107 tickets. Of the tickets issued, 413 were for speeding, 27 for distracted driving and 20 for seatbelt infractions. Ninety drivers were removed from roads for drug or alcohol impairment.
