Ottawa motorists will want to wait until Thursday to fill up the gas tank. Canadians for Affordable Energy president Dan McTeague says gas prices will drop 10 cents a litre in Ottawa and eastern Ontario on Thursday. Gas is selling for 171.9 cents a litre in Ottawa on Tuesday. McTeague said the price of gas will fall due to the “giddiness by futures traders on (U.S. President Donald) Trump’s latest over the war” in the Middle East. Trump told reporters on Monday that new talks between the U.S. and Iran are the “last chance” for Iran to secure a deal and avoid an escalation of U.S. strikes on the country. The price of gas hit $1.80 a litre in Ottawa last week, before dropping six cents a litre on Saturday. Gas prices hit $1.96 a litre in the capital in May due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. McTeague says gas prices will drop 10 cents a litre in Ontario and Quebec on Thursday.
