Wind warnings have now been issued for large sections of the B.C. coast and central Interior as some powerful fall storms begin to sweep across the province.
Environment Canada says winds of up to 90 kilometres per hour – with gusts up to 110 kilometres per hour in some areas – will hammer coastal and central parts of B.C. later today, before easing tonight.
Rainfall warnings or special weather statements are also in effect, with 50 to as much as 100 millimetres of rain forecast ahead of the strong winds.
Residents are being advised of the possibility of power outages and several large ones have already been reported and are under investigation around Courtenay and Qualicum Beach affecting about three thousand customers.
