Summertime heat continues on this late spring day and first day of June on Monday in Manitoba. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) said an omega blocking pattern continues over the eastern Prairies. An upper high over the region remains sandwiched between areas of low pressure to the southwest and to the east. That creates an atmospheric setup that is keeping a heat dome in place over Manitoba. ECCC continued heat warnings on Monday for parts of central and northern Manitoba, from Norway House to Lynn Lake. Hot highs close to 30 C are expected in the sunshine. Meanwhile, a heat warning for southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario has ended. Still, temperatures will reach the upper 20s or low 30s on Monday afternoon. The weather agency says showers or thunderstorms are possible in the south, courtesy of a cold front passing through the region. Unstable conditions will develop over the Red River Valley on Monday afternoon, but ECCC said the severe thunderstorms aren’t expected. Unseasonably warm temperatures will continue on Tuesday in Manitoba before a break from the heat comes on Wednesday. Daytime highs in the upper teens and low 20s will return to Winnipeg until Friday before heating up again on the weekend in the sun.
