View Royal’s casino will implement new dining options, a multi-purpose theatre and more slots and game tables in an expansion that will see the venue more than double in size by 2018.
The plans were announced by The BC Lottery Corporation and Great Canadian Gaming Corporation on Tuesday.
The expansion will see the already 35,000-square-foot casino add 42,000 square feet “to respond to the growth opportunity in the Greater Victoria marketplace,” BCLC and GCGC said in a release.
It includes the addition of a buffet, casual lounge and bar, a 600-person theatre, 12 new dealer tables and 350 more slot machines and electronic table games.
“Once the upgraded facility is complete, it is expected to generate incremental revenue and host local government payments will increase as a result,” the corporations said.
The View Royal upgrade was announced two months after BCLC announced it would build a smaller, boutique-style casino in Victoria.
With the expansion, View Royal Casino will continue to be Greater Victoria’s preeminent gambling destination, which Mayor David Screen called a “good compromise” for everybody when it was first discussed back in July.
The View Royal Casino generated $71.8-million in annual revenue last year, $4.1-million of which was split among seven West Shore communities, according to BCLC.
The renovations will begin next year and are expected to wrap up in 2018.
