Police in Vancouver are searching for witnesses as they investigate an alleged unprovoked assault that left a man with serious injuries. Officers were called to a report that a couple was walking back to their hotel after a concert at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday when a stranger approached from behind and struck the man in the face. The victim fell to the ground near Nelson and Richards streets and hit his head on the pavement, according to a news release from the Vancouver Police Department, which described the attack as a “random assault.” The suspect then fled toward Granville Street, police said. The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police described the suspect as a white man between 20 and 35 years old, standing between 5′5″ and 5′8″ tall, with a medium build. He was wearing fingerless gloves at the time of the assault. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has video that could assist the investigation to contact Vancouver police.
