A driver believed to have suffered a medical event before his vehicle was involved in several collisions—one of which killed a cyclist—has died. Police updated press about the case on Wednesday. The incident happened just after 1:30 p.m. on June 20, along Centre Street N. between 19th and 21st avenues. According to police, a man in his 70s was the driver in a Ford Escape that drifted onto the curb and struck a cyclist. Police said the Ford Escape dragged the cyclist for a time. The Ford Escape is said to have mounted the sidewalk, struck a sign, re-entered the road and an intersection and hit a second vehicle, pushing it into a third. The vehicle is then said to have ended up on another curb, striking a pedestrian, another sign and a pole, police said. “It is believed the driver suffered a medical event,” police said, noting he was taken to hospital in critical condition. Police said the driver died on July 15. The cyclist died at the scene. The pedestrian suffered minor injuries. Everyone else involved suffered minor or no injuries.
