Mounties say a 53-year-old North Vancouver man is facing charges following an investigation into historical allegations of sexual exploitation involving a minor. The investigation began in September 2024 after the Richmond RCMP received a report alleging offences that occurred between 2004 and 2008, police announced Tuesday. Following the investigation, Zahid Hassandeen Zade Nanji was charged with sexual exploitation and sexual assault, police said. Investigators allege the offences occurred while the complainant was a youth and the accused was in a position of trust or authority. “Reporting incidents of sexual abuse can be extremely difficult, particularly when the events occurred many years ago,” Cpl. Frank Bryson of the Richmond RCMP said in a statement. “We recognize the courage it takes for victims to come forward and encourage anyone who may have information related to this investigation, or who believes they may have experienced a similar incident, to contact police.” The Richmond RCMP says it will not provide further details about the allegations, which have not been tested or proven in court. The identity of the complainant is protected by a publication ban, police said.
