Several white cheddar cheeses are being recalled in Quebec due to possible contamination with Listeria. The recall was issued by Laiterie de Coaticook for its mild cheddar cheese curds and block cheeses in various flavours and sizes. The affected products are from a lot marked: “refrigerate after July 24, 2026 and best before Aug. 8, 2026.” The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not show visible signs of spoilage or have an unusual odour. The bacteria can cause vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headaches and stiff neck. It can be particularly harmful to unborn babies of pregnant women and may lead to miscarriage or stillbirth. The recalled cheeses should not be eaten and can be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased. The CFIA, which says the recall was initiated by the company, is conducting a food safety investigation. No illnesses have been reported so far. Listeriosis is a reportable disease in Quebec. This report by The Canadian Press was first published in French on Aug. 4, 2026.
