Ontario Provincial Police say two people are dead following a crash involving a transport truck and a moving van on Highway 11 near Cochrane on Sunday. Police said emergency crews, including OPP, Cochrane District Emergency Medical Services and the Cochrane Fire Department, responded to the scene about 20 kilometres south of Cochrane at about 2:45 a.m. on Aug. 2. “Two people have been confirmed deceased,” the OPP said in a news release Sunday evening. Police said the driver of the commercial motor vehicle was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigation continues “The investigation remains ongoing,” OPP said. Provincial police’s traffic incident management and enforcement team is assisting the James Bay OPP detachment with the investigation. Highway 11 remained closed through Sunday as investigators examined the scene. According to Ontario 511, all lanes were closed between Highway 579 in Cochrane and the Matheson Highway 11/101 junction. Road reopened Ontario 511 indicated the highway was fully cleared as of 1:35 a.m. on Aug. 3. OPP said further information will be released as it becomes available.
