A registered practical nurse in B.C. was suspended for eight days after he admitted to accessing the medical records of patients who were not in his care, according to the profession’s regulatory body. The B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives says Wilfredo Mamaril committed the misconduct on two occasions in April 2025, and he agreed to the disciplinary order this June. “The privacy of medical records is core to the trust that clients and others must be able to place in nurses,” the college wrote in a public notice. “Privacy breaches violate that trust and can be assumed to harm both the nurse-client relationship and the sense of safety for anyone whose privacy was breached.” The college noted that Mamaril had no previous record of discipline for misconduct, “engaged in remedial actions” and “gained no advantage” from accessing the medical records.
