SUMMERSIDE — Emergency services in Summerside, P.E.I. say a fire at a solar farm has been contained, but a shelter-in-place order for some people remains in effect. A statement from the city on Monday morning says firefighters will remain at the scene throughout the day and into Tuesday, applying water to hot spots and monitoring the site. Earlier in the day, police and firefighters responded to the fire at the city-owned Summerside Sunbank Solar/Battery Farm, and people along South Drive, from MacKenzie Drive to Bayview Drive were told to stay inside. That advisory is still in place in the St. Eleanor’s and South Drive area. Anyone in the area is being told to close all windows and doors, turn off any ventilation systems and avoid travelling through the affected area. A statement from the city says a road closure in the area remains in effect, and it will provide further updates as conditions change.
