Saskatoon is set to welcome country music fans from across Canada as Country Music Week 2026 officially gets underway in the city. The event marks the beginning of a week of country music activities leading up to the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards on Saturday at Saskatoon’s SaskTel Centre. The festivities kicked off Tuesday at Gather Local Market with a free community celebration featuring live music and a chance for residents to welcome visitors to Saskatoon. Prince Albert’s Josh Stumpf headlined the celebration, performing an outdoor set from the bed of a Ford truck. The Saskatchewan artist is nominated for two 2026 CCMA Awards, including Fans’ Choice and Breakthrough Artist or Group of the Year. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Country Music Association, making Saskatoon’s role as host city a significant one for the organization. CCMA President Amy Jeninga says Saskatoon has become an important part of the country music community. “Saskatoon is such a special place and community for our country artist community, both from an industry perspective as well as artists,” Jeninga said. “And we’re a national organization, so we love to be able to come into different communities to connect.” The kickoff event also featured a mass line dance lesson with dozens taking part, including some local dignitaries. Guests also received free bandanas designed by Saskatoon artist Chris Chipak. Saskatoon Mayor Cynthia Block was on hand to welcome country music fans to the city. She says the week is an important opportunity to showcase Saskatoon, with an estimated $16M dollars in economic spinoff expected from Country Music Week. “The important piece is that we actually get to showcase Saskatoon to the country, and even the world. This is a big deal. It gives us a chance to show off Saskatoon, to show how we come together to produce big things,” she said. Events are planned at venues across the city throughout the week, giving locals and visitors plenty of opportunities to take part. For some country music fans, the CCMA Awards on Saturday are the highlight of the week. “So excited. Excited to have people to our beautiful city, show up and see everything we have to offer. And, of course, really excited for the big show on Saturday,” explained Kelsi Kendel. Country Music Week continues through Saturday, Sept. 19, culminating with the CCMA Awards live from SaskTel Centre. The awards will be broadcast live on CTV and stream on Crave starting at 6 p.m.
