BIGGAR — A Saskatchewan mother says she wants the province to do better on health care after receiving a $1,300 ambulance bill for her son. Amy Haynes, speaking at an Opposition NDP news conference, says three-year-old Nolan came down with a high fever in May and required immediate medical attention. She says the doctor in their hometown of Biggar had recommended Nolan seek treatment in a larger centre more equipped to handle children’s cases. The mother says the doctor phoned nearby Saskatoon, along with two other communities, but was told they had no space. The doctor then found a bed at the hospital in Prince Albert, which was the next closest option but farther away from their home.
