Ontario Provincial Police say they have identified the young men seen in a video circulating on social media showing an attack on a homeless person in Sturgeon Falls, Ont. “The OPP has identified the individuals involved and is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident,” police said in a news release Aug. 12. The video shows “a group of young males allegedly assaulting an unhoused individual in Sturgeon Falls,” the release said. Don’t share the video, police say “Anyone with information that may assist with the investigation, including witnesses or those who may have relevant video, is asked to contact the Nipissing West OPP Detachment.” To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online. In an email to CTV News, Const. Rob Lewis said police have not received reports that the victim required medical attention. More information will be released as the investigation proceeds, Lewis added. Police reminded members of the public not to share or repost violent videos. “Sharing this type of content can further traumatize victims and contribute to online harassment. Anyone with relevant video or information is asked to preserve it and provide it directly to police,” said. “The OPP recognizes that incidents involving vulnerable members of our community can be concerning. Everyone has a role to play in keeping our communities safe and ensuring incidents of violence are reported to police.”
