Imitation was not the sincerest form of flattery this week after police say a teen was seen with red and blue flashing lights in the back of his vehicle. On Aug. 10, police received video of a white Ford Explorer in the parking lot of a business along Sage Creek Boulevard the night before. The vehicle was seen with lights flashing out the back window. Investigators were able to identify the vehicle and met with the driver – a 17-year-old boy. Police said the teen admitted to officers that he put the lights on his window using suction cups because he was dared by his friends. Officers looked through the vehicle and found it used to be a police vehicle and that it had been properly decommissioned. The vehicle had tinted front windows and the teen driver was given a ticket. Police said the officers then educated the teen on the “consequences of operating a vehicle marked with emergency lights that actively portrays it as an active police vehicle.” Anyone who is caught imitating a police vehicle can face significant consequences, police said, including facing criminal charges.
