A 48-year-old man is facing a charge of first-degree murder in connection to a fatal shooting in Ottawa’s rural southeast end three years ago. The Ottawa Police Service said emergency personnel responded to a call in the 400 block of Farmers Way, between Piperville Road and Thunder Road, at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Aug. 19, 2023. Witnesses had reported a shooting. The victim, 26-year-old Granit Ahmeti of Ottawa, died from his injuries. Family members told CTV News Ottawa that Ahmeti worked as a tow truck driver with Canadian Towing Service. On Wednesday, police said officers had made an arrest in connection to the homicide. Richard Micks, 48, of the Georgian Bay area is facing a charge of first-degree murder. Micks is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. Police are asking with information about the death of Ahmeti to contact the Ottawa Police Service’s Homicide Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5493. Police initially said the suspect was from Ottawa. They issued a correction to say the man is from the Georgian Bay area.
