Ottawa drivers have paid more than $8 million in fines for failing to stop for red light cameras at intersections across the city so far, including $840,000 in fines on King Edward Avenue. Statistics show 24,628 tickets have been issued through the City of Ottawa’s red light cameras through the first six months of the year, up from 21,329 tickets for running red lights during the same period in 2025. The City of Ottawa has 86 red light cameras set up at intersections across the city. The camera on King Edward Avenue northbound at St. Andrew Street has been Ottawa’s busiest red light camera so far this year, with 1,581 tickets issued for red light camera infractions so far this year. The camera issued 1,000 tickets for red light infractions during the same period in 2025. The data shows 371 tickets were issued by the camera on King Edward Avenue at St. Andrew in May, while 315 tickets were issued in June. The red light camera on King Edward Avenue northbound at Besserer Street caught 866 drivers running red lights between January and June, while the camera on King Edward Avenue at St. Patrick Street caught 148 tickets. A total of 915 motorists were caught by the red light camera on Wellington Street eastbound at Bay Street during the first six months of the year. During the same period in 2025, 1,082 tickets were issued for red light camera infarctions at the intersections. Eight cameras issued zero tickets for red light camera infractions during the first six months of the year. The fine for being caught running a red light by the red-light camera is $325. The ticket for running the red light is issued to the registered owner of the vehicle, regardless of who is driving the car at the time of the alleged offence.
