Man charged with forcible confinement, armed assault in Renfrew County

Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 48-year-old man on nearly a dozen charges following an investigation into a domestic dispute.

Police said in a news release that officers responded to a report of a dispute involving two people in the village of Cobden, just north of Renfrew on Friday shortly after 8 p.m.

The man from Chapeau, Que. was arrested on 10 charges, including assault with a weapon, assault, utter threats to cause death or bodily harm, forcible confinement and dangerous operation.

He was also charged with several weapons-related charges, including:

• Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
• Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order - two counts
• Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose

The suspect was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The OPP says it will not be releasing the suspect’s name to protect the identity of the victim.
